Rolling Thunder
Rolling Thunder is an exhibition of aviation photography, sold to raise funds for the Jersey International Air Display.
The exhibition was established in 2006 by the Air Display’s Events Co-ordinator, in partnership with several talented photographers and aviation enthusiasts who wanted to find a way to assist the air display. The Air Display relies on sponsorship, donations and fundraising to continue each year.
Jersey Airport has also supported Rolling Thunder by hosting the exhibition in 2007 and 2008. Both years, the Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Deputy Alan Maclean has invited guests to view the art as part of the programme during air display week. This support has proved invaluable and contributed to the success of the exhibition.
Photography captures a moment or a precise time frame, but each person who views it will see it differently, they will have their own thoughts or feelings about the image. Rolling Thunder aims to capture the spirit of aviation and the legacy of flight. Some images clearly show the art of flying, the skill of the pilot; others hopefully will inspire future pilots; some act as a tribute to aircraft and airmen of a bygone era; some remind us that many aircraft are built for combat.
The aim of the Jersey International Air Display is to help various military charities, specifically the RAFA (Jersey), raise money. However several veterans and serving military personnel have stated that the air display means more than that. It touches many people; local and overseas, in many different ways. It has come to serve as a tribute to those who have served and those who continue serve, our country in the Armed Forces. Through supporting the Air Display and Rolling Thunder, you can help us support our troops and support our Island.
We hope you enjoy the exhibition. If you would like to purchase any of the art featured on this website, please go to the contact page and send us an email!
